Israeli national held with live cartridge at Kangra airport

Live cartridge found during security screening; accused remanded to police custody.

An Israeli national was arrested after a live cartridge was recovered from his luggage during security screening at Kangra Airport, police said on Wednesday. The passenger was reportedly preparing to travel on a SpiceJet flight when the ammunition was detected in his bag.

Kangra Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said the incident occurred on September 15 when security personnel searched the luggage of the foreign national during routine screening. One live cartridge was recovered from his belongings. The accused was identified as Yonatan Levi, an Israeli citizen born on August 19, 2002. Police said he had arrived at Kangra Airport to board a SpiceJet flight when the cartridge was detected during security checks.

Following the recovery, Levi was taken into custody and a case was registered at Gaggal Police Station under FIR No. 113/2026, dated September 15, under Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act, 1959.

The accused was produced before a court, which remanded him to three days of police custody till September 18.

Police are questioning the accused to determine the source of the live cartridge and how it came into his luggage. SP Verma said further investigation and necessary legal action were underway in accordance with the law.
