District chief Keshav Chauhan flags patient woes over cardiology shift to Chamiyana and KNH gynaecology relocation

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest at CTO Chowk in Shimla on Tuesday, with district president Keshav Chauhan accusing the Congress government of failing to fulfil its 10 guarantees and discontinuing several public welfare schemes.

BJP workers held the demonstration amid rain and raised slogans against the state government. Chauhan said the protest focused on issues concerning the Shimla Assembly constituency.

Raising concerns over health services, Chauhan said the shifting of the cardiology department to Chamiyana was causing difficulties for patients. He said the department could have been started at Chamiyana through a new arrangement, but alleged that “destabilising IGMC” was not appropriate.

He also raised the issue of Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH), saying the 102-year-old women’s hospital had seen its gynaecology department shifted completely. He alleged that the move had caused difficulties for patients seeking treatment.

According to Chauhan, patients were required to undergo some tests at the IGMC and others at Chamiyana, while doctors were stationed at different locations.

The BJP district president also referred to the earlier system under which electricity metres could be installed without a no-objection certificate (NOC). He said the way had been cleared for restoring the arrangement following court intervention.

Chauhan alleged that the state government had discontinued several schemes meant for public welfare and claimed that it had failed in various sectors.

He said BJP workers would hold similar demonstrations against the government in every Assembly constituency.

The allegations were made by the BJP during its protest.
