A woman from Bhawarna in Kangra district died after allegedly falling from the fourth floor of Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital, Tanda, while undergoing treatment in the psychiatry ward, the police said.

According to the police, the woman, a resident of Ballah village in Panapar, had been brought to the hospital by her family for psychiatric treatment. After receiving treatment, she was taken home, where she allegedly consumed phenyl in the evening.

The family subsequently brought her back to the hospital. She was examined by a psychiatrist and admitted to the psychiatry ward on the fourth floor.

The woman allegedly fell from the fourth floor during treatment and died at the hospital, police said. Her body was sent for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the family after the procedure.

Kangra Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said an inquest was being conducted under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
