Members seek compensation for victims, shifting of stray dogs to shelters; warn of MC gherao

Shimla, September 14

Members of the Shimla Nagrik Sabha staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Monday, demanding immediate action against the growing menace of stray dogs and monkeys in the city.

The protesters alleged that incidents of dog and monkey attacks were increasing, raising concerns over the safety of residents and pedestrians.

The Nagrik Sabha demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation for the family of a woman who died after falling during a monkey attack in Cemetery. It also sought Rs 1 lakh compensation for victims of dog and monkey bites.

The protesters demanded that animal feeding points be shifted to locations where they did not inconvenience the public. They also sought action against people who feed animals in the open.

The Nagrik Sabha further demanded that stray dogs be shifted to shelters and that footbridges be kept free of stray dogs and monkeys to ensure pedestrian safety.

The protesters warned of intensifying the agitation if the authorities failed to take concrete measures. They said the organisation would gherao the Municipal Corporation office if the issue remained unresolved.
