PSPCL CMD transferred as power crisis deepens

The Punjab government has transferred Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Administrative Secretary and CMD Dr Basant Garg amid a growing power crisis in the state with farmers, industrialists and residents protesting against prolonged power cuts.  Principal Secretary Gurkirat Kirpal Singh has replaced Garg as the government comes under growing pressure to tackle the power shortage. The situation worsened on Saturday, when electricity demand in Punjab touched nearly 16,600 MW, sharply up from around 10,000 MW during September last year.
