Devotees in Kullu are preparing for Ganesh festival, with people visiting Dhalpur to purchase idols ahead of their installation in homes on September 14.

Ganesh festival celebrations are being planned at several places in the district, while Bhuntar will host the festival for 10 days, according to the source.

A number of devotees have been reaching Dhalpur, the district headquarters, to buy Ganesha idols prepared by local artisans. Eco-friendly idols made using clay and water colours are among those available for devotees.

Artisan Doonga Ram said he had been making Ganesha idols for Ganesh Chaturthi for several years and had prepared a large number of idols this year.

He said the idols were made using clay and water colours so that they did not cause harm to the environment.

According to Doonga Ram, people had earlier shown limited interest in purchasing Ganesha idols, but the trend had changed in recent years, with more devotees installing the idols at home during Ganesh Chaturthi.

He said the increase in demand had also improved his business.

Doonga Ram said he had sold around 250 idols to devotees this year.

Apart from Bhuntar, devotees at other locations in Kullu are also expected to organise various programmes as part of the festival celebrations.
