Police recover two .30 bore pistols and 10 live cartridges from suspects

Chandigarh/Pathankot, September 11

The Counter Intelligence Pathankot has arrested two alleged operatives in connection with a foreign-based targeted killing plot and recovered two .30 bore pistols and 10 live cartridges from them, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Friday.

The arrested persons were identified as Ravinder Singh alias Dhillon, a resident of Dhilwan in Batala, and Jashanpreet Singh, a resident of village Bal in Gurdaspur. Police also impounded their new Splendor motorcycle, which did not have a registration number.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation had revealed that the two were allegedly working at the behest of a foreign-based handler and had recently arrived from Dubai to execute an assigned task. He said further investigation was underway to establish the backward and forward linkages of the network and identify other operatives allegedly connected with the foreign-based handlers.

AIG Counter Intelligence Pathankot Sukhminder Singh Mann said the operation followed specific information that two motorcycle-borne persons were carrying weapons and travelling from Gurdaspur towards Batala to allegedly execute a targeted killing.

Acting on the input, CI Pathankot teams cordoned off the area and arrested both suspects from the outskirts of Gurdaspur while they were travelling on the motorcycle, Mann said.

A search led to the recovery of the two .30 bore pistols and 10 live cartridges, he added.

The case has been registered at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on September 10. Further investigation in the case is underway, officials said.
