Action targets alleged proceeds of illegal trade; assets include land, shop, vehicle and bank, post office deposits
Shimla, September 8
The police have seized movable, immovable and financial assets worth more than Rs 1.64 crore in an NDPS case in Theog as part of a crackdown on properties allegedly acquired from the proceeds of drug trafficking.
The action relates to an FIR registered at the Theog police station on June 10 following the alleged recovery of around 71 grams of opium from the barber shop of accused Sohan Lal, alias Happy, at Rihaghat.
According to the police, the investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly been involved in the illegal trafficking of opium in Theog, Kotkhai, Rohru and adjoining areas for a long period.
As part of the financial investigation, the police examined the properties and sources of income of the accused and his associates. The assets identified included a residential plot, agricultural land, a two-storey shop, a vehicle and deposits in bank and post office accounts.
Talking to the media, ASP Mehar Panwar said the assets, collectively valued at more than Rs 1.64 crore, were prima facie linked to proceeds of the alleged drug trade and were seized under provisions of the NDPS Act.
She said financial investigations in 12 NDPS cases this year had so far resulted in the seizure of movable, immovable and financial assets worth more than Rs 8 crore.
No financial investigations or property seizures in such cases were carried out in 2024 and 2025, the ASP added.
The police said its crackdown would extend beyond drug seizures and arrests, with action against properties allegedly acquired through proceeds of the illegal drug trade continuing.
