Arshdeep Kaler cites deceased’s final video alleging mental pressure after he raised drug abuse issue at Punjab minister’s programme

Sangrur, September 8

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Arshdeep Kaler on Monday questioned why Punjab Minister Harpal Cheema’s name was not included in the FIR registered over the suicide of Gulzar Singh, a resident of Toor Vanjara village in Dirba.Kaler said the deceased had allegedly named Cheema in the final video recorded before his death. According to Kaler, Singh had alleged that he was subjected to mental pressure by the village panchayat after raising questions about drug abuse during a programme attended by Cheema in the village a few days earlier.

Singh had also allegedly stated in the video that Cheema would be responsible for his death.

Kaler questioned the police action, saying the FIR names four persons but does not mention the minister. He asked why no action had been taken against Cheema despite the allegations made by the deceased.

The SAD leader alleged that the omission raised questions about the conduct of the ruling party and demanded clarity on the police investigation.

The allegations, however, could not be independently verified. The North News have not yet received the Finance Minister’s statement on these allegations. The story will be updated accordingly once his response is received.
