Bodies recovered after overnight search; police suspect rash, negligent driving

Two men and a teenager were killed in a road accident in the Bhaled area of Shahpur late Friday night while returning home on a motorcycle after attending a local fair, the police said.

According to preliminary information, the motorcycle went out of control and fell off the road into a drain. The three victims were reported missing after the accident, following which a search was launched.

The local panchayat head informed the Darini police post about the incident. After an overnight search, the bodies of all three youths were recovered.

The police said the deceased had been identified as Prince (18) and Pawan Kumar (30), while the identity of the third victim was yet to be confirmed. The bodies were brought to the Shahpur hospital for postmortem.

Kangra SP Kulbhushan Verma said the preliminary investigation indicated that rash and negligent driving could have caused the accident. The motorcycle apparently went out of control and plunged into the drain, he added.

The exact cause of the accident would be established after the postmortem report and the completion of the investigation, the SP added.

Verma said the police were conducting regular checkpoints and traffic checks in rural areas to prevent drunk driving.
