Rally to mark one year of OBC body’s campaign over 21 demands
Dharamshala, September 6
The Other Backward Classes (OBC) Sangharsh Samiti Himachal Pradesh will hold a car and motorcycle rally from Palampur to Shahpur on September 20 to press for its constitutional rights and pending demands, the Samiti state president Saurabh Kaundal said in Dharamshala on Saturday.
Kaundal announced the rally at a press conference, saying the event would also mark the first anniversary of the organisation’s campaign launched last year.
Kaundal said thousands of OBC community members had taken part in a foot march from Kangra to Dharamsala on September 20, 2025, under the banner of the OBC Sangharsh Samiti. A 21-point memorandum was subsequently submitted to the state government through the deputy commissioner, he said.
According to Kaundal, the organisation had not seen the expected action on its demands even after a year. He said the September 20 rally was intended to convey that the OBC community remained united over its constitutional rights and would continue its democratic struggle until its demands were addressed.
The demands listed by the committee include extending the validity of OBC certificates, implementing demands related to constitutional amendments and ending policies such as “Not Found Suitable”.
The organisation is also seeking transfer of OBC buildings to the concerned organisations, completion of OBC buildings currently under construction and construction of hostels for OBC students, Kaundal said.
He appealed to people in Kangra and across the state to participate in the rally. Participants can join the procession from any intersection or turn between Palampur and Shahpur, he said.
Kaundal said the committee’s campaign over its 21 demands would continue.
The committee’s announcement comes as it seeks renewed attention to the issues raised in its memorandum submitted after last year’s march. No details of any government response to the 21 demands were provided at the press conference.
