BJP MLA denies HIMCARE irregularities, alleges political vendetta and says he is ready to face any probe

Bharmaur BJP MLA Dr Janak Raj on Thursday appeared before the Vigilance office in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the HIMCARE scheme and demanded that a sitting judge investigate the matter if the state government was confident in its case.

Dr Janak Raj reached the Vigilance office at around 11 am and was questioned for nearly four hours. He had served as medical superintendent during the previous BJP government.

After the questioning, Janak Raj accused the state government of acting out of political vendetta and said he had no connection with any alleged irregularities in the HIMCARE scheme.

“If the government believes it is right, then the entire matter should be investigated by a sitting judge,” Janak Raj said.

He said the HIMCARE scheme had been introduced for the benefit of poor people and had provided assistance to beneficiaries irrespective of caste, religion or region. He claimed that bills worth around Rs 95 crore were cleared during his tenure as medical superintendent but maintained that no irregularity took place.

Janak Raj said he was ready to face any investigation and would cooperate with the authorities.

He also questioned the government’s decision to stop him from organising a camp in Nadaun, saying people themselves contacted him seeking help. He said helping people was his objective and that he would continue to do so.

“If helping people is breaking the law, I will continue to break such laws,” he said.

Janak Raj reiterated that he was prepared to face any inquiry and challenged the government to ensure an impartial investigation into the HIMCARE matter.
