Kullu, July 27
Members of the Gau Samman Aahwan Abhiyan staged a protest at Dhalpur in Kullu, demanding a nationwide ban on cow slaughter and recognition of the cow as the “Rashtra Mata”. The campaigners also submitted a memorandum to the Central Government through the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADM).
Addressing the gathering, Mahant Ram Sharan Das said the movement has been advocating these demands since 1966. He expressed hope that the Centre would take a positive decision, citing steps taken by the present government in support of Sanatan traditions.
He said the cow holds a revered place in Sanatan Dharma and is worshipped during religious ceremonies. The campaign urged the Centre to enact a law banning cow slaughter across the country and grant the cow the status of “Rashtra Mata” at the earliest.
