Patiala, July 21
Three members of the Bereaved Dependants’ Struggle Committee climbed a BSNL tower near Kali Mata Mandir in Patiala early in the morning, escalating their protest over unresolved demands related to employment and compensation for families of deceased power department employees.
The incident occurred while the committee’s protest outside the electricity board office entered its 48th day. According to the protesters, the agitation has been ongoing over demands for permanent government jobs for eligible family members of employees who died in work-related accidents while serving in the power department.
The committee has also been opposing the recovery of compensation amounts that had previously been granted by the government to the families of the deceased employees. Protesters said they had been continuously raising these issues but had not received a satisfactory resolution.
Frustrated by the lack of progress, three members of the committee climbed the BSNL tower as a mark of protest.
The sit-in protest continues, and a meeting between representatives of the committee and the management is currently underway in an effort to resolve the matter.
A member of the Bereaved Dependants’ Struggle Committee is expected to provide further details regarding the protest and the committee’s demands.
