Patiala, July 13

Patiala Police have arrested four young men allegedly involved in supplying illegal weapons for the Khatri gang and recovered 15 pistols from their possession, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patiala Varun Sharma said.

Providing details of the operation, the SSP said the arrested individuals, who are residents of Hoshiarpur district, were allegedly involved in an illegal arms supply network. Fifteen pistols were recovered from them during the investigation.

According to the SSP, the suspects used uniforms resembling those of companies such as Flipkart to avoid suspicion while travelling through bus stands and railway routes. The weapons were allegedly packed and transported in old Flipkart boxes and similar packaging material to conceal their movement.

The SSP said the accused were in direct contact with members linked to gangster Sonu Khatri. He added that the four arrested individuals were young and had allegedly come into contact with handlers based abroad through social media platforms.

According to information shared by the SSP, the overseas handlers allegedly provided instructions over phone calls, informing the suspects about locations where weapons were placed and directing them to deliver the arms. The suspects were allegedly paid small amounts for carrying out these tasks.

Police are currently conducting further detailed questioning of the arrested individuals to gather more information about the network and its operations.

The SSP further said that the gang members have several cases registered against them in Hoshiarpur district, including incidents related to local gang conflicts and physical altercations.
