Mumbai, July 9

Ahead of the much-awaited wedding sequence of Shivaay and Jagadhatri in Zee TV’s Jagadhatri, actor Sonakshi Batra received a heartfelt surprise from her fans, who organized a traditional Maharashtrian Kelvan ceremony to celebrate the upcoming on-screen wedding. The gesture reflected the strong emotional bond viewers have developed with both the actor and her character.
As the Deshmukh and Naik families prepare for the grand wedding celebrations in the show, fans extended the festivities beyond the screen by inviting Sonakshi to their home for the traditional pre-wedding ritual. Kelvan is a cherished Maharashtrian custom in which the bride or groom is welcomed with aarti and blessings, treated to a home-cooked meal and presented with gifts before marriage. Sharing her experience, Sonakshi Batra said the gesture was one of the most memorable moments of her journey with the show. She recalled that one fan told her, “You do not have a maasi, so today I will become your maasi and perform this Kelvan for you,” while another said, “I do not have a daughter, but you are like my daughter.”
She said the warmth and affection shown by her fans made her feel as though she was celebrating with family rather than admirers. The actor added that being welcomed with aarti, teeka, traditional Maharashtrian food and thoughtful gifts made the occasion truly unforgettable.
Sonakshi also said that portraying Jagadhatri has introduced her to several Maharashtrian traditions, and that experiencing the Kelvan ceremony in person made the cultural ritual even more meaningful. She said the love she has received through the show is something she will always cherish.
Speaking about the fan initiative, Zee TV Chief Channel Officer Mangesh Kulkarni said the channel has always aimed to create stories and characters that become an emotional part of viewers’ lives. He said the Kelvan, organized by fans, reflects the deep connection audiences have formed with Jagadhatri and highlights the importance of celebrating regional traditions authentically. The upcoming episodes of Jagadhatri will showcase the much-anticipated wedding celebrations of Shivaay and Jagadhatri. The show airs daily at 10 pm on Zee TV.
