Ludhiana, July 3

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Thursday announced that an Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum will be introduced in all government schools across the state from next month, describing it as a major step towards preparing students for a technology-driven future.

Speaking at the Bright Minds Punjab 2026 programme in Ludhiana, Bains said the government had been working on the AI initiative for the past year and was now ready to implement it across government schools.

The event honoured Class 12 students who secured more than 95 percent marks in the board examinations. Bains said the students represented the bright future of Punjab and the country and expressed confidence that many of them would go on to serve the nation in fields such as civil services, medicine, law and other professions.

He also said it was the first time that the Education Minister and the Education Secretary had directly interacted with students to gather feedback on the examination system, curriculum and teaching methods. According to Bains, the suggestions received would be taken into account while shaping future education policies.

Highlighting the state’s progress in education, Bains said Punjab had secured the top position in the national Education Index, attributing the achievement to the combined efforts of teachers, students and the government.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the quality of a nation’s education system determined its future and stressed that providing quality education to every child remained the government’s foremost responsibility.

He said that Artificial Intelligence would transform the nature of employment, creating new opportunities, making it essential for students to develop modern technological skills. Sisodia also called for reforms in the evaluation system, an end to cheating and wider adoption of scientific teaching methods.

Education Secretary Sonali Giri urged teachers and students to work together in addressing challenges such as drug abuse, unemployment and gaps in the education system. She also administered a pledge encouraging students to uphold constitutional values, preserve cultural heritage and protect the environment.

The AI curriculum initiative reflects Punjab’s efforts to strengthen public education while equipping students with skills needed for an evolving digital economy.
