New Delhi, June 15
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said his government has spent the past 12 years focusing on improving the daily lives of ordinary Indians, with particular emphasis on expanding opportunities, strengthening infrastructure and easing the burden of everyday living. In a message posted on social, Modi described his administration as “a government for the middle class” and said it was a privilege to work towards fulfilling the aspirations of millions of families who have played a significant role in India’s development.
“Over the last decade, governance has increasingly focused on improving the quality of life of ordinary citizens,” he said, highlighting efforts aimed at better public services, affordable healthcare, quality education, cleaner cities and improved access to opportunities. The comments came as the government’s citizen engagement platform, MyGov India, outlined what it described as key gains made by the middle class during the Modi administration’s 12 years in office.
According to the platform, improvements in transport, digital connectivity and public infrastructure have helped make daily life more convenient for millions of Indians.
It said internet access had expanded rapidly across both urban and rural areas, with more than 103 crore connections now in use. Lower data costs, it added, have helped people access education, employment opportunities, digital payment systems and entertainment more easily than before.
The government also pointed to changes in the railway sector, saying the expansion of Vande Bharat train services had made travel faster and more comfortable. More than 9 crore passengers have used the trains so far, while newer sleeper services are expected to improve long-distance journeys further.
Urban transport has also seen significant investment with metro networks expanding across major cities. Officials say the growing systems are helping reduce congestion, shorten travel times for workers and students.
Road infrastructure has been another major focus with upgraded highways and streamlined toll collection systems designed to cut travel delays and improve logistics. The government says these measures have made both business transport and personal travel more efficient.
The remarks form part of the government’s broader effort to highlight its development record, particularly among India’s growing middle class, which remains a key electoral and economic constituency.
