Shimla , June 12
Several parts of Himachal Pradesh received light to moderate rainfall over the past 24 hours, while isolated areas in Solan district witnessed heavy showers, prompting the Meteorological Center in Shimla to issue a rain and thunderstorm alert for the next two days.
According to the Meteorological Center, Kasauli recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 105 mm, followed by Dharampur with 86 mm and Dhaula Kuan with 43 mm. Rainfall activity was also reported from several other districts.
The state capital, Shimla, remained under cloudy skies on Thursday morning following overnight rain. Weather officials said thunderstorm activity accompanied by strong winds was reported on June 11 in parts of Shimla, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, and Kullu districts. Strong winds reaching speeds of 81 kilometers per hour were recorded in Nehri.
Meteorological Center Director Shobhit Katiyar said there is a possibility of hailstorm activity in isolated areas of Sirmaur, Shimla, Kullu and Mandi districts. He added that intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue across the state until June 13.
The weather is likely to improve in lower and mid-hill regions after June 14, although higher reaches may continue to experience cloudy conditions and isolated light rain.
The ongoing weather activity is expected to bring down daytime temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across most parts of the state on June 12 and 13. Currently, temperatures in lower hill areas range between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius, while mid-hill regions are recording temperatures between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius.
Katiyar said temperatures are likely to rise again after June 14 as weather conditions gradually stabilize across the state.
