The Haryana government has approved the formation of an Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS), marking a major step towards strengthening the state’s internal security framework and enhancing its ability to tackle terrorism and organized terror networks.

The official notification for the ATS has been issued, reinforcing the state’s commitment to a zero tolerance policy against terrorism.

Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said the initiative reflects Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s priority of ensuring public safety and maintaining a strong security environment. He said the state government remains committed to taking firm action against terrorism and related threats.

Describing the move as a significant milestone for Haryana Police, Singhal said the ATS would function with support from modern technology, specialized training, intelligence gathering, and close coordination with other security agencies. He expressed confidence that the new unit would strengthen law and order and help address emerging security challenges effectively.

According to officials, the ATS will be responsible for responding to terrorist incidents, investigating terrorism-related cases, gathering and sharing intelligence, maintaining terrorism-related databases, and conducting research and analysis. The unit will also focus on skill development and specialized training for personnel.

The ATS will be headed by an officer of Inspector General rank and will operate under the command and control of the Criminal Investigation Department. Its structure has been designed to address modern security threats through multiple specialized wings.

A dedicated commando force, on the lines of the National Security Guard, will be part of the ATS and undertake rapid-response and sensitive operations. An Intelligence and Operations Wing will focus on identifying, monitoring, and apprehending terrorist elements and networks.

A specialized ATS police station will also be established to investigate terrorism-related offenses. The facility will include legal, financial investigation, and forensic units to support comprehensive probes.

The ATS will further include a Cyber and Technical Intelligence Unit to monitor open-source intelligence, suspicious digital activities, and the dark web. A Data Analysis and Interception Unit will support intelligence collection and assessment through advanced technological systems.

Officials said a De Radicalization Unit will work to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies among youth through awareness and rehabilitation programs. A Training and Research Wing will conduct refresher courses, skill enhancement programs, and develop standard operating procedures for the force.

The state government expects the newly constituted ATS to play a crucial role in maintaining peace, enhancing public safety, and strengthening Haryana’s preparedness against terrorism and related threats.
