Shimla, June 11
The Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert for hailstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several districts of Himachal Pradesh on June 12, warning residents to remain cautious as a fresh spell of adverse weather is expected to affect the state.
According to the weather office, hailstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph are likely in Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts.
The department has also forecast a wet spell across Himachal Pradesh until June 16. Officials attributed the expected weather activity to a fresh Western Disturbance, which is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from June 12 onward.
Several parts of the state received light to moderate rainfall during the past 24 hours. Sarahan recorded the highest rainfall at 30 mm, while Palampur, Rohru, Manali, and other locations also reported precipitation. Thunderstorms and lightning were reported in parts of Kangra, Sundernagar, and Jot, while gusty winds affected areas including Neri and Sundernagar.
Weather conditions continued to vary sharply across the state. Kukumseri recorded the lowest night temperature at minus 6.3 degrees Celsius, while Una remained the hottest during the day, with a maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius.
The weather office has advised people, particularly those in vulnerable and hilly areas, to stay updated on forecasts and take necessary precautions as the state prepares for the incoming spell of unsettled weather.
