Bikaner, June 10
A specialist medical team from Jodhpur Medical College inspected PBM Hospital in Bikaner after six women developed severe health complications following deliveries, prompting an official investigation into the incident.
According to officials, some of the women were admitted to the intensive care unit after their condition worsened, while a few required dialysis due to kidney related complications.
The expert committee, constituted by Rajasthan Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar, visited the hospital on Tuesday night and examined the gynaecology department, operation theatres, and ICU wards. The team also interacted with patients and their family members as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Dr Prabhu Prakash Gupta from the Microbiology Department, who is part of the six member committee, said the team had completed its inspection, but it would take time to reach a conclusion.
“Patient care at present appears satisfactory. However, it would be premature to comment on the cause. We have completed inspections, and it will take some time to compile a final report,” Gupta said.
Officials said the exact cause behind the complications would only be known after the committee submits its report.
The state health minister had earlier clarified that the Bikaner incident was separate from the recent Kota case in which five women died days after childbirth. He also stated that samples of medicines and medical supplies were being examined as part of the investigation.
Hospital authorities said teams from the nephrology, gynaecology and medicine departments were jointly monitoring and treating the affected patients.
Family members of some patients alleged that the women were initially stable after delivery but later developed symptoms, including reduced urine output, raising concerns over the cause of the complications.
Meanwhile, Congress workers staged a protest in Bikaner earlier in the day over the alleged deterioration of healthcare services in the region.
