Chandigarh, June 9
Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Union Punjab 25/11 have announced a statewide strike and protest from June 9, 2026, alleging that the government has continuously ignored employees’ demands and is privatising departments.
The union stated that cases have allegedly been registered against protesting employees and that workers involved in agitations have been jailed.
According to the statement, more than 4 years have passed without a single government bus being added, and no employee has been made permanent during this period.
In protest, the organisation said it has started a strike and chakka jam of Punjab Roadways and PUNBUS services from June 9 along with protest demonstrations.
The union further announced that from 12 noon onwards on June 10, 2026, PRTC services would also face a chakka jam as part of a Punjab-level agitation.
It also announced that a dharna would be staged outside the residence of the Punjab Chief Minister in Chandigarh on June 11, 2026.
The organisation appealed to fraternity organisations, farmers, labourers, employees, and student groups to support the agitation to protect government departments and safeguard employment opportunities for youth.
