Patiala, June 6

BJP leader Jai Inder Kaur on Saturday strongly criticized the police lathi-charge on protesting youths outside the PSPCL Head Office and demanded strict action against the officials responsible for the incident. During a visit to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, Jai Inder Kaur met several youths who were injured during the police action that took place during a protest seeking employment opportunities. After interacting with the injured protesters, she addressed the media and described the police action as highly condemnable.

The BJP leader asserted that the youths were not involved in any criminal activity and were merely exercising their democratic right to protest. “These are job seekers, not gangsters,” she said, alleging that the manner in which the police acted suggested an excessive use of force against peaceful demonstrators.

Expressing solidarity with the protesters, Jai Inder Kaur said she supported their demands and would personally join their ongoing protest if required. She accused the state government of attempting to suppress the voices of unemployed youth through intimidation rather than addressing their concerns.

The BJP leader also raised questions regarding the treatment being provided to the injured protesters. She alleged that some of the youths were not receiving appropriate medical care and claimed that they were being accommodated in unsuitable wards. She further accused authorities of attempting to discharge injured individuals prematurely.

Calling for accountability, Jai Inder Kaur said the Punjab BJP would seek legal remedies and pursue the matter in court. She also announced that a memorandum would be submitted to the Governor of Punjab, demanding an inquiry into the incident and action against those responsible for the alleged excesses.

The remarks come amid growing political attention on the handling of youth protests and employment-related issues in the state. Authorities have yet to issue a detailed response to the allegations raised by the BJP leader.
