Patiala, June 3

A violent clash between two groups in Mehargarh Batti village of Sanour constituency in Patiala district left several people injured and triggered political controversy after videos of the incident surfaced on social media.

According to official information, around 9 to 10 people were involved in the clash, of whom nearly 6 to 7 sustained injuries during the fight. The injured were admitted to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for treatment.

In one of the viral videos circulating online, the injured village sarpanch accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sanour constituency in-charge Ranjodh Singh Hadana of backing the incident.

Responding to the allegations, Hadana visited the injured victims at Rajindra Hospital on Tuesday and addressed the media. He claimed the clash stemmed from a long-standing land dispute and denied any involvement in the violence.

Hadana stated that members from both groups are associated with the AAP and said he had attempted several times to mediate between the parties, but no settlement could be reached. He termed the allegations against him politically motivated and baseless.

The AAP leader also dismissed accusations of illegal mining in the constituency, stating that all ongoing mining activities are government-approved projects linked to development and public works. He further alleged that political rivals were trying to exploit the incident for political gain.

Police officials confirmed that cross-cases have been registered based on complaints filed by both parties. No arrests have been made so far, while DSP Rural has been assigned to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.
