McLeodganj, June 3

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama was presented with a Grammy Award on Wednesday during a special meeting with renowned Indian classical musician and sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in McLeodganj.

Amjad Ali Khan, accompanied by his sons Ayaan Ali Bangash and Amaan Ali Bangash, met the spiritual leader and formally handed over the award. Speaking to the media, the celebrated musician described the Grammy recognition as a significant global achievement for the Dalai Lama.

He said the spiritual leader appeared delighted after receiving the award and added that seeking his blessings was a deeply spiritual experience for the family.

Highlighting their long-standing association, Amjad Ali Khan said his relationship with the Dalai Lama dates back more than four decades. He also recalled performing in Delhi during celebrations marking the Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday.

Addressing young people, the Padma Bhushan awardee emphasized the importance of patience and tolerance, describing them as essential values in life.

Ayaan Ali Bangash and Amaan Ali Bangash termed the meeting a memorable occasion and said receiving the Dalai Lama’s blessings was a moment of great honour. They also noted the happiness visible on the spiritual leader’s face while accepting the Grammy Award.

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan remains one of India’s most respected classical musicians and was honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 1991.
