Punjab drug supplier among three arrested in Shimla drug bust

Three persons, including an interstate drug supplier from Punjab, were arrested in connection with a drug trafficking case after police seized 196 grams of chitta, also known as adulterated heroin, 47 grams of crystal meth, and Rs 60,400 in cash from Shimla and Punjab, officials said on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Samar Singh alias Tiger, 32, a resident of Ferozepur, currently living in Kharar, Punjab; Avantika Negi, 19, from Dhalli in Shimla; and Pradyuman, 20, a resident of Taknawal village in Theog subdivision of Shimla district.

Addressing a press conference, Shimla Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dhiman said the arrests were made on May 29 after police received information about suspected drug peddling activities in the Dhalli area.

He said a police team conducted a raid at a house in Dhalli where Avantika and Pradyuman were allegedly found in possession of nearly 65 grams of chitta and 20 grams of crystal meth. The two were taken into custody, and the contraband was seized.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, was registered, and further investigation was initiated, the officer said.

During the course of investigation, police found that the drugs had allegedly been supplied by Samar Singh from Punjab.

Dhiman said a police team was subsequently sent to Punjab, where Samar Singh was arrested with 131 grams of chitta, 27 grams of crystal meth, and Rs 60,400 in cash.

The accused has been brought to Shimla for further investigation. Police said efforts are underway to trace forward and backward links in the drug supply network.
