Chandigarh, May 21
Punjab Police has busted a drug and illegal arms smuggling module in Amritsar with the arrest of two persons and seizure of heroin and weapons, officials said on Thursday.
According to Punjab Police, the Counter Intelligence wing in Amritsar recovered 5.5 kg of heroin, four pistols and 10 cartridges from the accused during the operation.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with a cross border smuggler and had received consignments of arms and ammunition for further distribution in Punjab.
Police said a case has been registered in Amritsar, and further investigation is underway.
Officials added that efforts are being made to trace both forward and backward linkages of the network and identify other associates connected to the smuggling module.
