Jammu, May 16

Jammu Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas on Friday urged residents to actively participate in the digital self-enumeration process for Census 2027, which will begin on May 17 and continue till May 31.

Addressing reporters in Jammu, Minhas said citizens will be able to complete the process online through the official census portal, which is scheduled to go live at 6 am on May 17. He said residents can register using a valid mobile number, fill in household and personal details, and receive a unique Self Enumeration ID.

Minhas, who is also serving as the Principal Census Officer for Jammu district, said any adult member of a family can complete the process using a mobile phone, computer, or tablet from their home.

He said residents who complete the online process should keep their Self Enumeration ID ready for verification during visits by enumerators, as it will help reduce the time required for field verification and improve the overall efficiency of census operations.

The Deputy Commissioner clarified that the digital self-enumeration facility is optional and that households that do not complete the online process will still be covered during the door-to-door house listing exercise scheduled from June 1 to June 30.

According to officials, trained enumerators will visit households between 9 am and 6 pm to collect information using a structured questionnaire covering household facilities, ownership status, details of the head of the household, and other amenities.

Minhas also advised residents to verify the identity cards of enumerators before sharing information. He warned people against fraudsters attempting to collect money in the name of census work and said the entire exercise is being conducted free of cost with no payment required at any stage.

The administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with officials to ensure smooth and accurate census operations across the district.
