BJP accuses Himachal Congress government of misusing machinery to influence civic polls

Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajeev Bindal on Thursday accused the state Congress government of attempting to influence municipal elections by misusing the administrative machinery and undermining democratic values.

Bindal alleged that officials and the state’s administrative system were being pressured to influence the election process. He claimed the rejection of the nomination paper of a BJP-supported candidate from Ward No. 3 in the Solan Municipal Corporation elections was part of a planned conspiracy by the ruling Congress government.

He said the Himachal Pradesh High Court later intervened and allowed the BJP-backed candidate to contest the election, which, according to him, exposed the alleged attempt to “hijack” the polls. Bindal stated that the incident caused mental harassment to BJP workers and affected the party’s election campaign.

The BJP leader further alleged that the Congress government was trying to influence election outcomes through fear, administrative pressure, and misuse of power whenever public sentiment appeared to turn against it. He also claimed that people in the state were frustrated by corruption, economic mismanagement, and the government’s anti-development policies.

Bindal said the BJP would continue to fight to protect democratic values and expose what he termed anti-democratic actions of the Congress government. He asserted that the people of Himachal Pradesh would respond strongly through the democratic process in the upcoming elections.
