Alka Lamba targets Centre over women’s reservation, announces nationwide campaign

Congress leader Alka Lamba on Tuesday criticised the Center over women’s reservation and inflation, calling for immediate implementation of the law and greater political participation for women.

National president of the Indian National Congress women’s wing, Alka Lamba, during her visit to Shimla, strongly criticized the delay in implementing the women’s reservation law. Addressing a press conference after a meeting with party members, she demanded that the reservation be applicable across all 543 Lok Sabha seats.

Lamba alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party lacks the intent to empower women and said the law should have been implemented earlier. She announced a nationwide campaign to send 10 lakh postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate action. She added that women would stage a protest outside Parliament during the upcoming monsoon session.

She also called for the inclusion of OBC women in the reservation framework and demanded a caste census before delimitation. Lamba said that even if the Center delays action, the Congress would ensure 33 percent reservation for women in the upcoming elections, including in Himachal Pradesh.

Raising concerns over inflation, she criticized the recent increase in commercial LPG prices and rising fuel costs. She also accused the BJP of misusing constitutional institutions and questioned electoral processes, alleging irregularities under SIR.

Lamba said the party has begun preparations in Himachal Pradesh to identify and promote women candidates across all 68 assembly constituencies, highlighting women’s safety and representation as key issues.
