Mumbai, April 13
Veteran singer Asha Bhosle received a final farewell in Mumbai on Monday, as family members, friends, and several prominent personalities, including composer A. R. Rahman and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, paid their last respects. Her mortal remains were kept for public viewing at her residence with state honors before the final rites.
The final darshan of Asha Bhosle took place at her residence in Lower Parel, where her body was placed in a glass casket and draped in the national flag. It was also decorated with white lilies. Police personnel accorded a ceremonial salute as part of state honors.
Family members, including her son, Anand, and granddaughter, Zanai, were present at the ceremony. Close relatives, including Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar, also paid their respects. Hridaynath Mangeshkar was seen in a wheelchair.
Further, Shah Rukh Khan took to his Instagram and shared a post mourning the singers death which read “It’s truly sad to learn about Asha Tai’s passing her voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate world over for centuries to come. A talent that will outlive many, she always showered me with blessings and love and i will miss her. Rest in Peace Asha Tai love you.”
A. R. Rahman was among the first to arrive at the residence, followed by Sachin Tendulkar along with his wife Anjali. Several other public figures, including actors Asha Parekh, Tabu, Riteish Deshmukh, Renuka Shahane, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, and NCP leader Supriya Sule, also visited to offer condolences.
Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital due to multi-organ failure. Her funeral procession is scheduled to move from her residence to Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar, where the last rites will be performed in the evening.
Asha Bhosle’s final journey drew widespread tributes from across the film industry, politics, and the sports fraternity, marking the farewell of one of Indian music’s most celebrated voices.
