New Delhi, April 9
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said reservation for women in legislative bodies is urgently needed, arguing that it would make India’s democracy more inclusive, representative and participatory. In a post on social media platform X, Modi said delaying the implementation of women’s reservation in legislatures would be “deeply unfortunate”, underlining the need for faster political reform.
He said greater representation of women in elected bodies would strengthen democratic institutions and give more space to voices that have historically remained underrepresented in politics. The prime minister also said he had elaborated on the issue in a recently published opinion article, where he shared his broader views on why the measure is important at this stage.
