Chandigarh, April 8
In a major crackdown, Punjab Police have busted a suspected cross-border illegal arms smuggling module, arresting three men and a juvenile, and recovering seven sophisticated pistols, 12 live cartridges and a motorcycle. Sharing details, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the early investigation points to links with Pakistan-based smugglers, with the accused using social media platforms to coordinate the movement of weapons into India through the Attari border sector.
The arms consignments were collected from pre-decided drop points near the border and then passed on to local criminal networks operating in different parts of Punjab, the DGP said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
A case has been registered at Chheharta police station in Amritsar under the Arms Act, and officers are now working to trace both the suppliers and the local distribution chain. The Punjab Police said further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network and identify everyone involved.
