Ranbir Kapoor’s first look as Lord Rama from producer Namit Malhotra’s ambitious film Ramayana was unveiled on Thursday.

The makers released a two-minute-38-second teaser titled ‘Rama’ on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, offering a glimpse into the world of Lord Rama, featuring battlefields, grand palaces, and dense forests. Kapoor is seen in royal attire adorned with gold jewellery, portraying the king and warrior of Ayodhya.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for films like Dangal and Chhichhore, the project has been in development for seven years.

Speaking at a promotional event, Tiwari said the journey to this moment had been long and challenging, expressing satisfaction with the audience’s response to the teaser and acknowledging the efforts of the entire team.

The film features Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lord Lakshman.

Ramayana is produced by Prime Focus Studios and DNEG in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The two-part live-action saga draws on one of Indian mythology’s most enduring epics and leverages the expertise of DNEG, an Academy Award-winning visual effects studio known for films such as Inception, Interstellar, Dune, and Dune: Part Two.

Malhotra described the teaser launch as a special moment, expressing pride in the film and calling it a labour of love.

In a statement, Kapoor said portraying Lord Rama has been a deeply humbling experience, adding that he approached the role as an opportunity to learn from the character’s simplicity and purity.

The first part of Ramayana is slated for a worldwide IMAX release during Diwali 2026, with the second part scheduled for Diwali 2027.

The film’s music is being composed by Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and A R Rahman, while action sequences are choreographed by Hollywood stunt experts Terry Notary and Guy Norris. Production design is led by Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery.
