Rapper and musician Badshah joined an investigation in Panchkula in connection with an FIR over alleged objectionable lyrics and visuals in his recently released music video Tateeree, the Punjab and Haryana High Court was told on Thursday.
The court was also informed that the Look Out Circular issued against the singer, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, has been withdrawn.
During the hearing, the state counsel further told the high court that police authorities would not act on the basis of the March 13 order issued by the Haryana State Commission for Women.
The commission had earlier directed that Badshah be arrested after he failed to appear before a deadline over allegations linked to the Haryanvi music video.
The matter came up before Justice Jagmohan Bansal, who was hearing a writ petition filed by Badshah challenging the women’s commission’s March 13 order.
In his petition, the singer had sought to set aside the order directing the Superintendent of Police, Panipat, to register an FIR and arrest him in connection with a summons issued on March 6.
An FIR was registered in Panchkula on March 6 at the Cyber Crime Police Station under Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, and Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The case relates to the circulation of the song on online platforms, including YouTube, and allegations that its lyrics and visuals were objectionable.
The high court was told that Badshah had already joined the investigation in Panchkula. The state counsel, acting on instructions from the Cyber Cell SHO, also said the Look Out Circular against him had been withdrawn.
The court was further informed, on instructions from the Panipat Superintendent of Police, that no action would be taken based on the women’s commission’s March 13 order.
Following these submissions, counsel for the petitioner chose not to press the matter further. The court then disposed of the petition as not pressed.
The controversy began after the Haryana State Commission for Women issued a notice to Badshah on March 6, asking him to appear before it in Panipat over alleged objectionable lyrics in Tateeree.
Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia had said strict action would be taken if he failed to appear by 3 pm on March 13, alleging that the song insulted “Haryana daughters” through inappropriate words and language.
Badshah had recently posted a video on his official Instagram account apologising if his latest song had hurt anyone’s sentiments.
