Modi, Kuwait Crown Prince discuss West Asia tensions

New Delhi, March 18

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a telephone conversation with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah to discuss the worsening situation in West Asia, with both leaders stressing the need for diplomacy and regional stability. In a post on X, Modi said he conveyed Eid greetings to the Kuwaiti Crown Prince before the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the region.

The Prime Minister said both sides shared concerns over the escalating conflict and agreed that ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remains a top priority. Modi also reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, underlining New Delhi’s support for peace and stability in the Gulf.

He said both leaders agreed that sustained diplomatic engagement was essential to prevent further escalation in the region.

The Prime Minister also thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for its continued support towards the safety and well-being of the Indian community living in Kuwait.

This was the second time Modi has spoken to the Kuwaiti Crown Prince since the West Asia conflict began nearly three weeks ago, following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran and subsequent retaliation by Tehran, including strikes targeting several Gulf countries.

Since the conflict began, Modi has held talks with several regional leaders, including those from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Jordan, Israel and Iran, as India closely monitors the situation in the strategically vital region.
