Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Anurag Singh Thakur has accused the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh of being divided and lacking coordination, warning that internal tensions were harming governance and development in the hill state.

Speaking to reporters in Una on Friday, Anurag Thakur, who is also the Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, said the Congress government was facing infighting among ministers and a breakdown in coordination between ministers, officials and employees.

He alleged that since the Congress came to power in Himachal Pradesh, the state had repeatedly faced natural disasters, while the government had failed to respond effectively with relief and rescue operations. Thakur also criticised the state’s law and order situation, claiming that the administration had remained inactive in addressing public concerns.

Thakur said development depended on smooth coordination within the government, adding that the current atmosphere in Himachal was marked by “more tension than teamwork”. He pointed out that ministers themselves were questioning the functioning of the government, which he described as unprecedented.

Raising a series of questions, the BJP leader asked whether the growing tensions within the government were pushing the Congress towards further fragmentation, stalling development projects and increasing the state’s debt burden. He also questioned whether disagreements between the chief minister and cabinet colleagues would continue to escalate.

Referring to differences among ministers over the role and performance of officials, Thakur said any officer, regardless of whether they were from within or outside the state, should be held accountable if they failed to act in the public interest. He said decisions should be based on performance rather than regional considerations.

The Congress government has yet to respond to the allegations.
