The Shimla police have put special law-and-order and traffic arrangements in place as thousands of tourists arrive in Shimla to celebrate the New Year. Police officials said around 8,000 to 10,000 vehicles are entering the city daily, prompting the activation of a special security and traffic management plan. Shimla has been divided into five sectors, each placed under the supervision of a designated officer.

More than 400 police personnel have been deployed across the city, with additional staff assigned to manage traffic and prevent congestion at key points. Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said the influx of tourists and locals increases significantly on New Year’s Eve, requiring heightened vigilance. “Based on previous years’ experience, sensitive locations and potential crowd points have already been identified,” he said.

He added that security arrangements and traffic control measures have been strengthened at all major entry and exit points. As in previous years, traffic regulation and control points have been set up to avoid jams and ensure smooth movement across the city.

The district police have also established a facility counter to assist tourists with information and guidance. “We welcome all visitors to Shimla and are making every effort to ensure they can celebrate the New Year in a safe and peaceful environment,” the SP said.
