Shimla, December 28
Resident doctors at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, have withdrawn their indefinite strike with immediate effect after receiving assurances from the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu regarding an inquiry and the revocation of a termination order.
In a press note issued on Sunday, the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of Indira Gandhi Medical College said the decision followed a meeting with the Chief Minister on December 28. According to the RDA, the Chief Minister assured them that a detailed inquiry would be initiated into the matter and that the termination of Dr Raghav Narula would be revoked.
The association said it had decided to call off the strike “in larger public interest”, adding that resident doctors would fully cooperate with the inquiry process until the termination order is formally withdrawn.
The RDA also announced that it would review the situation and decide its future course of action at a meeting scheduled for January 3, 2026.
In its statement, the association thanked resident doctors across Himachal Pradesh and the rest of the country for their solidarity. It also expressed gratitude to the Himachal Medical Officers’ Association, medical teachers’ associations and other professional bodies for their support during the protest.
The press statement was signed by RDA office bearers, including President Dr Sohil Sharma, Vice President Dr Madhup Arora and General Secretary Dr Adarsh Sharma.
