Himachal Pradesh Health Minister Dr Dhani Ram Shandil has described the ongoing strike by resident doctors as “wrong”, saying the situation could have been avoided had the accused doctor apologised earlier. Speaking to reporters, Dr Shandil said that when resident doctors met the chief minister to raise the issue, the doctor accused in the scuffle case should have accepted his mistake and sought an apology. “If an apology had been offered at that stage, such a situation would not have arisen,” he said.
The health minister said the government had issued strict instructions to ensure that emergency medical services were not disrupted. He added that once the chief minister returns, efforts would be made to resolve the matter swiftly. “This issue will be sorted out soon,” he said. Dr Shandil said doctors going on strike was not justified, stressing that the medical profession carried immense responsibility. “The government is not against anyone’s career,” he said, “but at the same time, the convenience and welfare of the public must be kept in mind.”
He described the strike as an attempt to exert pressure and said that every mistake left room for correction through dialogue and due process.
