Bollywood veteran Hema Malini has shared a deeply emotional tribute to her husband, actor Dharmendra, in her first public reaction following his death. In a statement posted on social media, Malini said she was “left with myriad memories” after “years of togetherness”, describing her personal loss as “indescribable” and a “vacuum” that would endure for the rest of her life. “Dharam ji was many things to me – a loving husband, an adoring father to our daughters Esha and Ahaana, a friend, philosopher, guide, poet, and my ‘go-to’ person in all times of need,” she wrote. “He was everything to me, through good times and bad.”
Malini said Dharmendra had endeared himself to her entire family with his warmth and easy manner.
Reflecting on his public life, she said his “talent, humility despite his popularity, and universal appeal” made him a “unique icon, unequalled among legends”. His fame and contribution to Indian cinema, she added, “will last forever”.
