The Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday said that a proposal to streamline the Central government’s law-making process for the Union Territory of Chandigarh remains under examination, and no final decision has been taken.
In a statement issued today, the ministry said the proposal does not seek to alter Chandigarh’s governance model or its administrative arrangements with Punjab and Haryana. Officials added that any move would be made only after “adequate consultations” with all stakeholders.
The ministry stressed there was “no need for concern” and that the Centre has no plan to introduce any legislation on the matter during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
