New Delhi, October 14 — Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday praised the four-decade-long contribution of the National Security Guard (NSG) in safeguarding India against terrorism and announced a significant operational expansion, including a new hub in Ayodhya and a state-of-the-art training centre in Manesar.

Addressing the 41st Foundation Day celebrations at the NSG campus in Manesar, Shah said the force has embodied the principles of “Sarvatra, Sarvottam and Suraksha” since its inception in 1984. “The entire nation takes pride in the NSG’s courage and dedication,” he said, highlighting key operations including Operation Ashwamedh, Operation Vajra Shakti, Operation Dhangu, the Akshardham response, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

He laid the foundation stone for the Special Operations Training Centre (S.O.T.C.), a Rs 141 crore facility to provide advanced counter-terror training to NSG commandos and state police anti-terror units. “India’s fight against terrorism requires strong coordination between the Centre, state governments, police units, NSG and CAPFs,” Shah said.

The Home Minister also announced that a new NSG hub will be set up in Ayodhya, joining existing hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Jammu. These hubs will ensure rapid deployment of commandos in the event of an attack.

Shah outlined the Modi government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism since 2019, including amendments to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act, choking terror financing through the Enforcement Directorate, banning the Popular Front of India (PFI), and strengthening intelligence sharing through CCTNS and NATGRID.

“Terrorists cannot hide anywhere in the world now,” he asserted, referring to counter-terror operations such as Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, which targeted Pakistani terror networks and their operatives involved in the Pahalgam attack.

He noted that NSG has secured over 770 critical locations, planned security for religious sites and national events such as the Mahakumbh and Rath Yatra, and developed strategic response plans to protect key national assets including the Parliament.

Shah also highlighted the environmental contribution of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), noting that personnel have planted over 6.5 crore saplings since 2019.

He concluded by saying the government will equip NSG with cutting-edge technology to strengthen its operational readiness. “NSG has been a symbol of courage, dedication and security. Its legacy will grow stronger in the years to come,” Shah said.
