Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its century-long contribution to national service and community development, saying the organisation had withstood conspiracies and attacks since independence. Speaking at an event in New Delhi to mark the RSS’s centenary, Prime Minister Modi released commemorative postage stamps and coins to honour the organisation’s legacy.

He recalled that RSS leaders, including the revered Guruji , had faced false cases and imprisonment, yet responded with patience and resilience. “Sometimes the tongue gets pressed under the teeth and even crushed, but we do not break the teeth, because the teeth are also ours and the tongue is also ours,” the Prime Minister said, citing Guruji’s words as an inspiration.

Calling it a “fortunate moment” for current generations of RSS volunteers, he extended greetings to millions of swayamsevaks dedicated to national service. Modi described RSS shakhas as “inspirational grounds” where personal growth turns into collective strength, and where the journey from ‘aham’ (I) to ‘vayam’ (we) begins.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the RSS’s participation in the 1963 Republic Day parade, saying volunteers had marched with “great pride and dignity.” He likened the Sangh’s influence to rivers that sustain human civilisation, saying “hundreds of lives have blossomed and thrived along the flow of the RSS.” Modi credited the Sangh with preserving tribal traditions and strengthening their communities over decades. “I deeply appreciate the lakhs of swayamsevaks working tirelessly in every corner of the country to make the lives of tribal communities easier and better,” he said.

The RSS, founded in 1925 by Dr K.B. Hedgewar, is marking its 100th year with a series of events celebrating its role in nation-building.
