Elon Musk and Sam Altman have clashed publicly once again, trading accusations and barbs on X previouly know as Twitter in a dispute that blends personal animosity with corporate rivalry.
The latest spat began when Musk accused Apple of favouring OpenAI in App Store rankings, warning that he would take legal action if the alleged bias persisted. Altman, OpenAI’s chief executive, fired back: “This is a remarkable claim, given what I have heard alleged that Elon does to manipulate X to benefit himself and his own companies and harm his competitors and people he doesn’t like.”
Musk, the billionaire owner of X, branded Altman a “liar”, complaining that Altman’s post drew three million views — far more than many of his own — despite Musk having “50 times” the followers.
Altman countered with a challenge, asking Musk to sign an affidavit swearing he had never ordered changes to X’s algorithm that harmed competitors or benefited his own businesses, pledging to apologise if Musk complied.
The exchange marks the latest flare-up in a simmering feud between the two tech leaders, once allies in artificial intelligence, now sparring in the open.
