New Delhi, July 29
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted two consecutive flight-tests of the surface-to-surface ‘Pralay’ missile on 28 and 29 July from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, off the coast of Odisha. The tests, part of user evaluation trials, aimed to validate both the minimum and maximum range of the missile system. DRDO confirmed that both missiles followed the intended trajectories precisely and hit their targets with “pin-point accuracy”, meeting all mission objectives.

Tracking sensors from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), including ship-based instruments positioned near the impact site, verified that all subsystems functioned as expected. Developed indigenously, ‘Pralay’ is a solid-propellant quasi-ballistic missile designed for high-precision strikes. It can carry multiple types of warheads against diverse targets and uses advanced guidance and navigation systems.

The missile was developed by the Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with multiple DRDO labs and industry partners including Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, as well as a range of Indian MSMEs.

Senior scientists from DRDO, representatives from the Indian Army and Air Force, and industry officials witnessed the tests. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners, stating the tests marked a “technological boost” to India’s military capabilities.

Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, said the completion of Phase-1 flight tests paves the way for the missile’s early induction into the armed forces.
