At least seven people, including five women and two men, were killed and around 18 others injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus veered off the road and fell into agricultural fields near Tarangla in the Maseran area of Sarkaghat sub-division on Thursday. The vehicle, carrying an estimated 20 to 25 passengers at the time of the incident, skidded off the road under unknown circumstances. Local residents were among the first to reach the scene and assist in rescue operations, working alongside police and emergency responders.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarkaghat, Sanjeev Gautam, confirmed the fatalities include five women and two men and said the injured were being treated at the Sarkaghat Civil Hospital. Some of the more seriously hurt have been referred to higher medical centres for advanced care. The cause of the accident remains unclear, though preliminary concerns point to the region’s challenging hilly terrain and possibly poor road conditions. A police investigation has been launched.
