Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on the occasion of his Balidan Divas—a day observed to commemorate the veteran leader’s death. “Tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his martyrdom day. He displayed incomparable courage and effort to keep the integrity of the country intact. His invaluable contribution to nation-building will always be remembered with reverence,” Modi posted on X, formerly Twitter.
At the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, party president J.P. Nadda offered floral tributes to Mookerjee and addressed party workers. “Today, on the 72nd death anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, our workers across the country are organising programmes in his memory,” said Nadda. “Born in Bengal, Dr. Mookerjee made significant contributions to India’s independence and played a major role in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and present-day West Bengal into the Indian Union,” he said. Calling him “a man of multi-faceted talents,” Nadda underlined Mookerjee’s importance as a national figure whose political legacy continues to influence the BJP’s ideological vision.
