In a bid to simplify toll collection and reduce congestion at toll plazas, the Centre will roll out a FASTag-based annual pass for private vehicles from 15 August 2025, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Wednesday. The new scheme, priced at ₹3,000, will be valid for 200 trips or one year from the date of activation—whichever comes first—and is available exclusively to non-commercial private vehicles, including cars, jeeps and vans.
Gadkari described the initiative as a “transformative step” aimed at ensuring seamless, cost-effective access to National Highways across India. “This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction,” he said. The annual pass will be available for activation and renewal through a dedicated link to be launched soon on the Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Officials say the new system will ease bottlenecks, reduce disputes, and significantly cut wait times at toll booths—benefits that could greatly enhance the travel experience for millions of highway users. The announcement comes amid broader efforts by the government to streamline India’s road infrastructure and modernise its toll collection system using technology.
